As the North Midlands area coordinator for the Taekwon-do Association of Great Britain, I would like to welcome you to this website! My name is Mr. Brian Towndrow and I am currently a 7th Degree Black Belt in Taekwon-do. As well as being responsible for the North Midlands area, I am also a full-time Instructor at the Derby Academy of Taekwon-do, which I set up in 1984. Along with this, I am an accredited grading examiner for the T.A.G.B.

I first became involved in the martial arts in the early 1970’s just before it became widely popularised through the breathtaking abilities of one Bruce Lee. At that time Taekwon-do was a relatively new form of self-defence in this Country. My original motivation was entirely personal: I was feeling rather overweight and unfit and thought that Taekwon-do would be as effective as any other form of fitness and would also allow me to learn an efficient form of self defence at the same time. Little did I realise that the dynamic qualities of the art would leave such an indelible mark on my life that is with me to this very day.

I feel very honoured to be the chairman of the North Midlands committee and I owe much of its success to the dedication of the five group leaders that help me to serve the needs and demands of the area.
