Members of the 2010 NM Summer Training Camp

Students who went on this years 2010 NM Summer Training Camp flew back into Stanstead Airport in the early hours of Wed 23rd June.

An amazing long weekend of TKD Training was lead once again by Mr Wurr, who again proved to be informative, helpful, challenging and entertaining to all the students who attended.  All of the usual TKD syllabus area were covered in detail, and some areas of TKD that are not always touched upon were dealt with.

As for the past 3 years, the Camp was at the gorgeous Spanish village of Mojacar.  Stunning weather was in abundance, and students had the opportunity of scuba diving with instructors from the local PADI dive centre.  Despite a few amusing moments with the language (the hand signals under the water were fine) the group had a wonderful dive.   1st time diver Tracy did especially well, displaying an amazing amount of courage and application of the tenets, but the dive will be especially remembered by Mr Newton, who seemed to have formed a wonderful bond with his diving instructor......  (details of which may be bribed out of the rest of us).

It is always a sad moment when we part at the airport and go our separate ways, but this is a testament to friendships old and new which are formed on these annual training camps.  Friendships like these last a lifetime.

I know that I speak for all the people who went on this years camp when I say a massive Ty to Mr Wurr for organising an amazing experience, and for his inspirations instruction, help and guidance.

If anyone wants to know more about the NM Summer Training Camps, or are interested in attending next year, just speak with anyone who has been on any of the trips.  It is a life changing experience and you will form bonds and friendships that will last a life time.  To those who didn't make it this year, we missed you, but expect to see you next year.

I am pleased to announce that after a 6 month selection for the post of new North Midlands Coach, Danny Pearson 4th Dan, will be heading up the North Midlands future competition development as the Area Coach.

CONGRATULATIONS TO DANNY, WHO RECEIVED UNANIMOUS SUPPORT FROM THE NORTH MIDLANDS INSTRUCTORS!

Danny has competed for nearly 20 years, nationally and internationally, and is one of the most experienced competitors who has trained within Nottingham competition training.   As the Area coach, since the start of the North Midland Development Group, I am proud to hand the reigns of developing the massive new talent within the area over the years ahead to Danny.
In my new role as Manager of North Midlands Competition and Sports Training, I hope to find more time to work 'top down' with the North Midlands instructors, to help them, help you, to progress faster and gain the most from your competition training. A massive congratulations are extended to Master Brian Towndrow who has just achieved 35 years in Tae Kwon Do!
This achievement runs concurrently with Master Towndrow serving as North Midlands Area Co-Coordinator and Grading Examiner for the TAGB for an outstanding 21 Years! (Longer than many of the members of this website have been alive.....)
To mark these great achievements, students from Derby Academy presented Master Towndrow with a framed copy of the Tenets of Tae Kwon Do as written by General Choi.
Well Done, Sir!

Nottingham Taster Sessions and Demonstration

On Saturday Nottingham and surrounding TAGB schools took part in an event organised by the City Council to promote healthy living and exercise in Nottingham.

The Market Square in Nottingham was full of stalls giving information on living a healthy lifestyle, and in prime position in front of the Council House was an arena where different exercise classes were run, allowing members of the public to join in.

Although initially only allocated a half hour slot, the TAGB session was so well received that we were asked to carry on and ended up doing well over an hour.

Mr Tyler ran the sessions, taking members of the public and many TAGB students from the area through a basic class of warm up, simple linework and pad work.

Mr Mitchell provided commentary on a headset microphone and was thrilled to hear the sound of his own voice even louder!

The event was a great success and the TAGB section in particular was very well received by the public and event organisers alike.

Nottingham Evening Post - 5th May 2009:

Report from Nottingham Evening post

The BBC were filming for the local news programme and may broadcast some footage on Monday if you want to see your moment of fame, similarly the Evening Post were also there taking photographs, so keep an eye out for pictures in the paper.

Special thanks go to Mr Tyler for stepping up in front of such a large audience, and to all the students and Instructors from Nottingham and beyond who happily gave up their free time on the Saturday of a Bank Holiday weekend to help promote the TAGB at such a high profile event. Your commitment and efforts on the day were very much appreciated and contributed to a real success for the TAGB.
